The College Football Playoff rankings were unchanged at the top this week, with LSU first followed by Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia.

The selection committee's third weekly rankings had little movement in the top 10, with Alabama fifth followed by Oregon, Utah, Penn State, Oklahoma and Minnesota.

The committee could face an interesting decision with Alabama in the coming weeks. The Crimson Tide lost quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for the season to a hip injury Saturday. Alabama faces Western Carolina this weekend, so playing backup Mac Jones shouldn't make much difference. On Thanksgiving weekend, the Tide will face Auburn with its No. 2 quarterback, which should give the committee a better read on what kind of a team Alabama is now.

Dantonio plans to return to Michigan St.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) Mark Dantonio made his clearest statement yet about his future, saying he intends to be Michigan State’s coach next season.

Dantonio had been vague recently when the topic had come up, but Tuesday he quickly said “yes” when asked if he planned to be the coach for next season’s opener against Northwestern.

Concussed Minnesota QB Morgan uncertain

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The status of quarterback Tanner Morgan is uncertain for 11th-ranked Minnesota’s game at Northwestern after back-to-back sacks in the last game put the sophomore in the concussion protocol.

Coach P.J. Fleck said Tuesday that Morgan has made progress this week, but the Big Ten’s leading passer has not been cleared. The Gophers (9-1, 6-1) play Saturday against the Wildcats (2-8, 0-7), with a one-game lead in the West Division on Wisconsin. They finish the regular season Nov. 30 against the Badgers.

Tua has surgery, prognosis ‘excellent'

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) Alabama’s team surgeon said Tua Tagovailoa’s prognosis was “excellent” after the quarterback underwent surgery to repair a dislocated hip, although there is no timeline for Tagovailoa’s recovery.

Dr. Lyle Cain said Tagovailoa is expected to recover fully after Monday’s surgery in Houston - probably the best possible news the QB could have received about the devastating season-ending injury, which has cast a cloud over his football future.

Alabama gives AD Byrne raise, extension

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) Alabama has given athletic director Greg Byrne a raise and one-year contract extension.

The university's board of trustees compensation committee approved the new deal Tuesday. Byrne will make $1.3 million this year in the deal which dates back to July 1. That will go up to $1.54 million in the final year, 2025-26.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Georgia coach Kirby Smart apologized Monday for using an expletive after his team’s victory over Auburn, which sent the No. 4 Bulldogs to the Southeastern Conference championship game for the third year in a row.

Smart began his weekly news conference by saying he was disappointed in himself for his choice of words in the wake of a 21-14 victory over the Tigers.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) The American Athletic Conference approved an 11-team schedule for the 2020 and ’21 football seasons that includes eight games per year and each school facing every other member at least once.

The AAC announced its two-year plan for scheduling Monday. The conference recently gained NCAA approval to scrap its divisions after Connecticut leaves the league following this season to join the Big East and to still hold a championship game. The conference said exactly how championship game participants will be determined has not yet been decided.

Iowa ends Minnesota's unbeaten season

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) Minnesota’s undefeated season came to an end in a place where the Gophers have struggled for a while.
